Occupational Therapy

Many people are surprised to hear that children participate in occupational therapy because we usually associate the term occupation with work. However, occupational therapists have a broad view of "occupation."

At Progressive Pediatric Therapy Services, we help children be successful in the many "jobs" of childhood, including play, self-care, school performance and social interactions. Developing these skills is critical for transition to the independence required in adulthood. As pediatric occupational therapists, we address many skills needed for success in a child's daily life. Occupational therapy at Progressive Pediatric Therapy Services provides evaluation, intervention and consultation in the following areas: Occupational Therapy

Therapy is designed to seem like play to the children, yet the therapist draws upon extensive training in specialty areas to provide challenging therapeutic activities aimed at developing greater capabilities such as enhancing upper body strength, eye-hand coordination, and tolerance to touch and movement. Occupational therapists also work on feeding and self-help skills. Our occupational therapists are highly trained in sensory integration, therapeutic listening, handwriting, improving fine motor skills, and treating neurological conditions in children.

"The first time Tammy came into our lives was through a home visit to evaluate our middle daughter Courtney, who had just been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. She walked in and all three of my daughters and our large chocolate lab fell in love with Tammy and her toys. Tammy has been seeing Courtney for almost two years and Courtney is walking and can use both of her arms and hands. I believe Tammy's ability to exercise and stretch my daughters abilities through play and unique skills has tremendously been an asset to Courtney, not to mention our whole family."
